Enjoy the paradise
that IS the Animal Kingdom Lodge!
Have breakfast at Boma instead of dinner. The food is absolutely wonderful and the restaurant is NOT crowded. I think there are similar dessert offerings at breakfast and certainly more that the picky eater in your family will tolerate (and possibly enjoy!).
While one adult in your party stands in the uber slow check-in line when you arrive... the other climbs the stairs to the bar and acquires adult beverages to be enjoyed during what can be a very long wait.
Don't let anyone try to convince you that the bus transportation is an issue at AKL. Not only is the waiting area pleasant, you won't wait long for a bus to anywhere. Returning is great, too. We never, ever waited longer than 15 minutes for a bus at the parks or even at DTD.
Mara is a bit out-of-the-way but has everything you need for a snack, romantic toast or craving. The staff is super nice and very accomodating.
