Excelent site - very well done. Me and my wife stayed at the AKL for our honeymoon in 2006 and will be returning for our anniversary in Sept 09. Cant wait.
Last time we stayed here we had a superb room overlooking the Arusha Savanna. My question regards room allocation and do Disney take any notice of preferred room selections or is it luck of the draw ?
When you make your room reservation, go ahead and specify your room requests (e.g. Zebra Trail, 3rd Floor, etc.). If you make your reservation online, give Disney reservations a call about 1 month prior to your arrival to confirm that your requests are tied to your reservation number.
The requests will travel with your reservation when it is transferred from Disney World's Central Reservations team to the Animal Kingdom Lodge around 5 days prior to your arrival. Once you arrive at AKL, they'll have already assigned you a room. The front desk cast member will show you on a map where your room will be located. If your requests haven't been met (it's practically impossible to give everyone everything they ask for), you can always work with the front desk cast member to determine if any other rooms have opened up (due to cancellations, etc.) that better fit your requests.
In the past, folks used to fax room requests to the room assignor at each hotel prior to their arrival. Because Disney was inundated with these requests, they've asked that people stop that practice, and use the reservations system (as outlined above) to make room requests.
Good luck! We've never had a problem and have always had great cast members willing to bend over backwards to honor our requests.

Excellent thanks for that. We have already booked (booked in March last year so you can see how eager we were) but will get in touch with Disney around 4 weeks before departure to communicate our requests. I know my wife would love to be around the same area as last time so with the help of your site we now know where to request. I may also ask for some flowers to be delivered to the room as a nice surprise.
Can't fault the cast members for efficiency - we recently stayed at the Disneyland Hotel in Paris and the service was superb. No bad word to say about any of our Disney holiday's - I am from England so its holiday's not vacations :-)
Thanks again - hope the site takes off and does well !
As for flowers--check out the disney florist (disneyflorist.com). They have some great disney-themed stuff at all price points that they deliver to the resort rooms!
I'm looking forward to my first trip to Disneyland Paris! Glad to hear the service was great!

Hi, we are coming for the first ever trip to USA, never mind to Disney, the second week of July 2010. We will have travelling the whole day on a plane and would like to know if anyone can recommend a room (we have booked a Savannah view) or floor/block that we should ask the reservations team for prior to arrival. We are two adults with a 5 year old, we would ideally like to be as close to the entrance as possible as we know that each day our daughter will be exhausted so we want to spend as little time as possible travelling around the actual hotel to get to our room and back! We are only there for 9 nights so every moment is important! Many thanks
We love Animal Kingdom Lodge, but if you're looking for a cheaper option, consider staying off-property at hotels near Disney World. By staying off-site, you can save a lot of money on your Disney vacation.
